Trustee Development
The role of trustees in not-for-profit organizations today
is a complex one where balancing fiduciary responsibility
with personal, in-depth knowledge of the institution often
come into conflict. Trustee training and evaluation, board
organization and development, and trustee profiling are
essential components of an effective board of trustees.
Through weekend retreats, often in settings away from
the institution, trustees, guided by the consultant, focus
on topics as varied as:
- strategic planning
- effective governance
- programmatic problem-solving
- resolving specific school issues
- preparing for an executive search
|
These retreats provide a forum for considering major
issues facing the institution in an undistracted and
relaxed setting where the partnership between trustee
and executive leader is fostered and enhanced. These
goal-setting sessions frequently act as a catalyst for
change and institutional improvement.
Similar retreats are fashioned for faculty and
administrators, either to build consensus around school
issues or to develop a strong sense of team camaraderie. (Learn
